A high resolution Minecraft texture pack, Brown and Bloom will probably find favor amongst the modern gaming crowd because it makes use of the brown palette that many recent FPS games use to make their games look 'realistic' and 'gritty'. You'd be hard pressed to call Brown and Bloom gritty however, the texture pack has a smooth, almost air brushed finish that blends the notion of reality and idyllic utopia together in one creamy blend. It's like chocolate for your eyes.

Though I started using Brown and Bloom at night, which is not the best time to evaluate a set of textures, this texture pack had me at 'Tiger Skin Beds'.

And then again at 'hyper realistic rendering of the moon'. You could almost teach a class about planetary bodies using the moon in this texture pack.

Some very real artistry has gone into Brown and Bloom and it shows in very simple, subtle things. Take work benches for instance, usually they're marked with squares that make them look like over sized tic tac toe boards. In Brown and Bloom they appear to have been grooved carefully, which makes them a useful decorative block. Never before have my work bench floors looked so classy! Just for a change, the sides of workbenches aren't representations of tools, they're now useful (albeit non functional) drawers.

In the light of day, the natural world is utterly stunning in Brown and Bloom. There are very few HD texture packs out there that really make the terrain look inviting and easy on the eye, but this is definitely one of them. Brown and Bloom's focus on earth tones creates a smooth, natural world. Different biomes blend into one another smoothly, creating gently dappled effects very reminiscent of the real world.

This texture pack makes a very clear delineation between natural materials and crafted ones. Natural materials have a more gritty, dirty feel to them, whilst crafted materials are incredibly smooth and refined. This makes a great deal of sense, as surely the crafting process would result in more refined products, no? If you choose to build from 'raw materials' your buildings will have a much rougher appearance than they will do if you choose more refined materials. Wooden planks, for instance, are light and wonderfully smooth, whereas wood blocks are so rough you can almost feel the bark rasping against your hands.

The Brown and Bloom interface is very simple indeed. The discrete hearts system has been replaced with a continuous health bar. The inventory interface is backed with leather, like a wallet or bag might be and is without a doubt, the best interface of its kind I've ever seen.

This is a texture pack that could easily become the new default for any Minecrafter. A great deal of care has been put into it to the point where I'd really call it a professional effort. Definitely worth the download.
