Iceberg Survival, Minecraft Survival Map

You were out on a lovely cruise when your ship ran into... an iceberg! It's the oldest story in the book, but because there's no writing in any of the books in Minecraft, you didn't know that. Now you must watch as your once proud vessel burns to a crisp, leaving you stranded on a very small, very icy isle.

A good Minecraft survival map is a delicate thing to construct. It has to be simple enough to provide scope for the player to carve out their own brand of lifestyle, but it has to contain some point of interest, especially now that survival islands and skyblocks have been done to death. Iceberg survival walks the line between atmosphere and the harsh realities of survival incredibly well, you might think that the presence of a massive ship lodged in the side of your island will help you, but you'll think wrong.

The map begins with a mad dash to salvage whatever you can before your ship's unfortunate explosive stores are hit by the fire which broke out on deck when you slammed your vessel merrily into the iceberg. This is one of the best beginnings to a survival map I've ever played, with an honest to god burn timer limiting what you can achieve before you start out.

If you were a spoil sport you could just go over and punch the flames out, but that's against the rules, see? The rules don't preclude putting out fires after the ship explodes however, so there is the potential to save a few precious pieces of wood after the fact. The only thing that marrs this otherwise cinematic opening is the fact that Minecraft's mechanics aren't always precisely predictable, so even when the entire ship is wired to blow, well, I'll leave it to you to discover what happens on occasion. Hint: Free starting TNT.

It's what you do once you get off the ship that really bakes your noodle though. Do you dig into the icy iceberg and try to find treasures? Or are you willing to turn what little solid land you do have into a mass of water lanes that will push you into the depths faster than you can say 'Oh, Davy Jones, fancy seeing you here!'

This is a map with very few resources, so it's going to be a challenge even for people who are used to hanging out on little blocks of dirt in the middle of the void, I highly recommend this survival map download, it's minecraft survival the old school way.
